Scripture (KJV) – 1 Samuel 16:7
“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
Reflection
We live in a world that places tremendous importance on outward appearances. People are often judged by how they look, what they own, where they live, or how successful they appear to be. But God does not evaluate us the way people do. Scripture tells us plainly that “the LORD looketh on the heart.”
We can sometimes convince others that everything is right between us and God. We can attend church, carry a Bible, speak Christian words, and maintain a good reputation. Yet none of those things can hide the true condition of our hearts from the Lord.
God sees our motives. He sees our secret thoughts. He knows whether our worship is sincere and whether our obedience comes from genuine love for Him. He also sees the bitterness, pride, jealousy, lust, unforgiveness, or hidden sin that we may never allow anyone else to see.
That truth should bring personal conviction, but it should also bring comfort. The God who sees our failures also sees our struggles. He sees the tears nobody else notices, the prayers nobody else hears, and the acts of faithfulness that receive no recognition from people.
Instead of spending our lives trying to impress others, we should desire a heart that pleases God. Ask Him to remove anything that does not belong there and replace it with love, humility, purity, compassion, and obedience.
People may only see the outside, but God sees what really matters.
He sees the heart.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that You see beyond outward appearances and know the true condition of my heart. Search me today and reveal anything within me that does not please You. Remove pride, bitterness, jealousy, unforgiveness, and every hidden sin that interferes with my fellowship with You. Give me a clean heart that sincerely loves You and desires to obey Your Word. Help me to stop seeking the approval of people and instead live each day seeking to please You. May my thoughts, motives, words, and actions bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ. In His name, Amen.
