October 5 – When God Feels Far Away

Scripture (KJV) – Isaiah 41:10

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Reflection

There are times in life when God seems very near. Prayer comes easily, Scripture speaks clearly to us, and we can almost see His hand working around us.

Then there are other seasons when God seems far away.

We pray, but nothing appears to change. We look for direction and cannot see the next step. Trouble comes from several directions at once, and we begin wondering, “Lord, where are You?”

God gives His people a powerful answer:

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee.”

Our circumstances may change, but God’s presence does not.

Notice how personal His promises are: “I am thy God.” “I will strengthen thee.” “I will help thee.” “I will uphold thee.”

God never promised that His people would never experience trouble. He promised that we would never have to face trouble without Him.

Sometimes we ask God to remove the mountain when He intends to give us strength to climb it. We ask Him to calm the storm immediately when He may be teaching us to trust Him while the wind is still blowing.

Faith is not pretending that everything is fine.

Faith is being able to say, “Everything is not fine, but God is still with me.”

Maybe you are facing something today that you cannot fix. Perhaps you are worried about your family, your finances, your future, or someone you love. Maybe you have been carrying a burden so long that you are simply tired.

Listen again to God’s promise:

“I will help thee.”

Not maybe. Not if He remembers. God says, “I will.”

There will be moments when our strength fails. That is when we discover that the Christian life was never supposed to be lived entirely in our own strength.

God does not tell us to hold ourselves together.

He says, “I will uphold thee.”

Whatever today brings, you do not face it alone. The same God who has carried you through yesterday is already present in tomorrow.

When you cannot see God’s hand, trust His promise: “I am with thee.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for promising that I never have to face life alone. When I am afraid, remind me that You are with me. When I am weak, strengthen me. When I do not know what to do, guide me. When I feel like I cannot continue, uphold me with Your hand. Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear to become greater than my faith. Help me trust Your promises even when I cannot see what You are doing. Give comfort today to those who are grieving, struggling, afraid, or discouraged. Help us remember that Jesus Christ is with us through every valley, every storm, and every uncertain tomorrow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
