October 26 – John 8:58

“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” – John 8:58 KJV

Reflection:

In this profound declaration, Jesus reveals His eternal nature and divine identity. When He said, “Before Abraham was, I am,” He wasn’t simply speaking of existing before Abraham’s time—He was claiming the very name of God revealed in Exodus 3:14: “I AM THAT I AM.” Jesus was not merely a prophet or a great teacher; He was, and is, God in the flesh—eternal, unchanging, and sovereign.

This statement reminds us that Jesus stands outside of time. He was present before creation and will reign forevermore. As believers, we can take comfort knowing that the same “I AM” who spoke to Moses and walked among men still abides with us today. No matter the challenges we face, the eternal presence of Christ is our anchor, our assurance, and our peace.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for revealing Yourself through Your Son, Jesus Christ—the great “I AM.” I praise You for being eternal, unchanging, and faithful throughout all generations. Help me to trust in Your everlasting presence and to live each day with the confidence that You are always with me. Let my heart rest in the truth that before anything was, You already were. Strengthen my faith and draw me closer to You each day.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
