Scripture (KJV) – Mark 13:35-37
“Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”
Reflection
Jesus concluded His teaching about His return with one clear command: “Watch.” He was not telling His followers to live in fear, but to live in faithful expectation. Every believer should live each day with the awareness that Christ could return at any moment.
Spiritual complacency is one of Satan’s greatest tools. It whispers that there will always be more time to repent, more time to pray, more time to witness, and more time to serve the Lord. But Jesus reminds us that His return will come suddenly. The question is not whether He is coming, but whether we are ready.
Watching means keeping our hearts clean before God. It means staying faithful to His Word, remaining committed to prayer, loving others, and sharing the Gospel while there is still opportunity. A watching believer is not idle; he is actively serving the Lord, knowing that every day is a gift from God.
If there is unconfessed sin in your life, confess it today. If there is someone who needs to hear the Gospel, speak to them today. If God has called you to serve Him in a particular way, obey Him today. One day our faith will become sight, and we will stand before our Savior. May He find us faithful when He comes.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise that Jesus Christ is coming again. Help me to live each day with an expectant heart and a faithful spirit. Keep me from becoming spiritually careless or distracted by the things of this world. Search my heart and reveal anything that does not honor You. Give me boldness to share the Gospel, compassion for the lost, and strength to remain faithful until the day I see You face to face. May my life bring glory to Your name, and may I always be found watching and ready. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
