Scripture (KJV) – Revelation 20:12
“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”
Reflection
Revelation 20:12 gives us a solemn picture of the Great White Throne Judgment. John sees all people — “small and great” — standing before God. No one is overlooked.
No one is too powerful. No one is too unknown. Every life will stand before the Lord.
The verse says “the books were opened.” This speaks of complete accountability. God sees every action, every word, every motive. Nothing escapes His knowledge.
But then another book is mentioned — the Book of Life.
That is the most important book.
Those judged by their works alone will fall short, because none of us are righteous on our own. Salvation is not earned; it is received through Jesus Christ.
When a person trusts in Christ, their name is written in the Book of Life.
This verse should not create fear in the believer — it should create gratitude. If you belong to Christ, your judgment was placed on Him at the cross.
But it should also awaken urgency. Many are living unaware that eternity is real and judgment is certain.
Today is the day to live ready.
Live with eternity in view. Walk in obedience. Share the gospel. And thank God that mercy is still available.
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for Your Word that reminds me of eternal truth. Help me live each day with the awareness that I will stand before You.
Thank You that through Jesus Christ my hope is secure. Keep my heart humble and grateful for Your grace.
Give me boldness to share the gospel with others while there is still time. Help me walk in obedience, integrity, and faithfulness. May my life reflect that I belong to You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
