A Biblical Examination of the Last Days Through Scripture alone (KJV)
By Junior Tate Ministries
Introduction
The return of Jesus Christ is the blessed hope of every believer. Scripture teaches that the coming of the Lord will be sudden, visible, and global. Jesus Himself gives us one of the clearest indicators of the timing and character of His return when He says the last days will resemble “the days of Noah.” This is not a vague or mystical comparison. Jesus points us to a historical period filled with specific moral conditions, spiritual realities, and global events.
In Matthew 24, Jesus does not direct us to speculation, philosophy, or human opinion, but to divine history recorded in the Word of God. By understanding the days of Noah, we gain insight into the world conditions leading up to Christ’s Second Coming.
This article will examine:
- What the days of Noah were like
- Why Jesus compares those days to the last days
- How the Scriptures describe the attitude of the world before the Flood
- The Fallen Angels and Their Offspring in the Days of Noah
- How humanity will behave before the return of Christ
- What believers are commanded to do in light of these warnings
- What Scripture says will happen at Christ’s return
This study is rooted in complete KJV Scripture, carefully explained with Scripture interpreting Scripture.
Jesus’ Own Warning: “As the Days of Noah Were”
The foundation for this entire study is found in Jesus’ words:
Matthew 24:37–39 (KJV)
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Jesus teaches four essential truths about the last days:
- The conditions before His coming will mirror the conditions of Noah’s day.
- People will be consumed with daily life; unaware or uninterested in spiritual realities.
- Judgment will come suddenly and unexpectedly.
- Most of the world will be unprepared.
This is not speculation. Jesus makes the comparison Himself. So we must ask:
What exactly were the days of Noah like?
To answer that, we go to Genesis 6.
The Moral and Spiritual Condition of Noah’s Day
Extreme Wickedness Filled the Earth
Genesis 6:5 (KJV)
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
The wickedness of mankind was:
- Great
- Universal (“in the earth”)
- Internal (“thoughts of his heart”)
- Constant (“only evil continually”)
When Jesus said the last days would be like this, He meant moral corruption would not be occasional or limited, but worldwide and constant.
The Earth Was Filled With Violence
Genesis 6:11–12 (KJV)
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Violence was not regional; it was global. Society had normalized it. Humanity had “corrupted his way,” meaning people rejected the ways of God and embraced their own ways.
Jesus says the world before His coming will mirror this.
The Fallen Angels and Their Offspring in the Days of Noah
Another defining characteristic of the days of Noah was the unnatural corruption brought into humanity when fallen angels; referred to in Scripture as “sons of God” left their proper place and took human women as wives. This union produced a race of giants, contributing to the deep moral decay that filled the earth. The Bible states clearly:
Genesis 6:1–4 (KJV)
1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters of men were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
These “sons of God” are understood in Scripture to be angels. Job uses the same term:
Job 1:6 (KJV)
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
Jude explains that certain angels left their original habitation—their God-given order—and committed great sin in the days before the Flood. These angels are now held in chains awaiting judgment.
Jude 6 (KJV)
6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Peter also refers to this same incident when he writes:
2 Peter 2:4 (KJV)
4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment…
This angelic rebellion, combined with human wickedness, filled the earth with corruption and violence, accelerating God’s judgment. Jesus’ comparison of His return to “the days of Noah” means that the world will again experience widespread spiritual rebellion, demonic deception, and intensified supernatural darkness, just as it was when fallen angels influenced humanity before the Flood.
Humanity Rejected the Preaching of Righteousness
Noah was not simply a builder; he was a preacher.
2 Peter 2:5 (KJV)
5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.
For over a hundred years, Noah warned the people of God’s judgment. The world ignored him. They dismissed his message.
Likewise, in the last days:
2 Peter 3:3–4 (KJV)
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
Mockery and unbelief will fill the earth; just like in Noah’s day.
Noah Found Grace, Not Because of Merit But Because of God’s Favor
Genesis 6:8 (KJV)
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Even in judgment, God extends grace. In the last days, God offers salvation through Christ, but most will refuse, just as most refused Noah’s preaching.
The Ark Was the Only Place of Salvation
Genesis 6:17–18 (KJV)
17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh…
18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark…
Judgment was coming but there was one way to be saved.
Today, there is also one way of salvation:
John 14:6 (KJV)
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus is our Ark.
Why Jesus Used the Days of Noah as a Warning of His Return
Jesus did not use the days of Noah for symbolism; He used it as a literal, historical picture of the world at His coming.
Here are the parallels:
The World Will Be Spiritually Careless
Jesus said:
Matthew 24:38 (KJV)
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage…
None of these activities are sinful in themselves.
The issue is spiritual indifference.
The world will be:
- Distracted
- Preoccupied
- Comfortable
- Unconcerned about eternity
Life will feel “normal,” even though judgment is approaching.
People Will Ignore Warnings
Just as Noah warned the world, the Bible warns the world today. But most ignore it.
1 Thessalonians 5:2–3 (KJV)
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them…
A world shouting “peace and safety” will be blindsided by Christ’s return.
Wickedness Will Intensify Globally
Jesus describes the last days like this:
Matthew 24:12 (KJV)
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
In Noah’s day wickedness abounded. Jesus says the same will happen before His return.
Most Will Not Be Prepared
Matthew 24:39 (KJV)
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Judgment came suddenly.
Judgment came unexpectedly.
Judgment came on the unbelieving world.
Judgment came while life seemed normal.
Jesus says His return will be the same.
Luke’s Additional Warning: The Days of Lot
Jesus also compares the last days to the days of Lot.
Luke 17:28–30 (KJV)
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
The days of Lot were marked by:
- Immorality
- Rebellion
- Perversion
- Prosperity without God
- Sudden judgment
Again—no opinions—this is Jesus’ own comparison.
The Apostles Also Taught That the Last Days Would Mirror Noah’s Day
The New Testament writers repeatedly echo Jesus’ warning.
Paul: The Last Days Will Be Perilous Times
2 Timothy 3:1–5 (KJV)
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
These descriptions match Genesis 6 perfectly:
- Wickedness
- Corruption
- Violence
- Rebellion
- Moral collapse
- Spiritual emptiness
Peter: Scoffers Will Deny the Return of Christ
2 Peter 3:3–7 (KJV)
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers…
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?…
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old…
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now… are kept in store, reserved unto fire…
Peter directly connects:
- The coming judgment
- The Flood
- The last days
- Christ’s return
This is exactly what Jesus taught.
Jude: Widespread Rebellion and Ungodliness
Jude 14–15 (KJV)
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly…
Christ’s return is a judgment event for the unbelieving world.
Noah as a Picture of the Faithful Remnant in the Last Days
Even in a wicked world, Noah walked with God.
Genesis 6:9 (KJV)
9 Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
This is the picture of believers in the last days:
- Separated
- Righteous
- Faithful
- Obedient
- Walking with God
God always preserves a remnant.
The Ark as a Picture of Salvation Through Christ
The ark had:
- One door
- One means of salvation
- One refuge from judgment
Genesis 7:1 (KJV)
1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark…
Jesus says:
John 10:9 (KJV)
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved…
And:
Acts 4:12 (KJV)
12 Neither is there salvation in any other…
As the ark saved Noah from the waters of judgment, Christ saves believers from the judgment to come.
The Suddenness of Christ’s Return
Jesus emphasizes the unexpected nature of His coming.
Matthew 24:42 (KJV)
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Matthew 24:44 (KJV)
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Revelation 16:15 (KJV)
15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth…
Just as the flood came suddenly, Christ will return suddenly.
The Final Judgment Will Resemble the Days of Noah
The Flood was global judgment.
The return of Christ will bring global judgment.
2 Thessalonians 1:7–10 (KJV)
7 …the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God…
9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction…
10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints…
As the Flood took away the ungodly, the return of Christ will bring final judgment to the ungodly.
What Believers Must Do in Light of This Warning
Jesus and the apostles give clear commands.
Watch
Mark 13:35–37 (KJV)
35 Watch ye therefore…
37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
Be Sober and Vigilant
1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)
8 Be sober, be vigilant…
Live Holy Lives
2 Peter 3:11 (KJV)
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness…
Warn Others
Noah warned his generation.
We are commanded to warn ours.
Ezekiel 33:7–9 (KJV)
…when I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked… his blood will I require at thine hand.
The Days of Noah Are Here
Jesus said:
Matthew 24:37 (KJV)
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
The world today reflects:
- Widespread wickedness
- Violence and moral corruption
- Spiritual blindness
- Scoffing at biblical truth
- Rejection of God’s warnings
- Indifference to eternity
Just as in Noah’s day, judgment is approaching.
Just as in Noah’s day, God has provided a way of salvation.
Just as in Noah’s day, only those who enter God’s “ark”—Jesus Christ—will be saved.
Hebrews 2:3 (KJV)
3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation…
The message is clear:
The days of Noah have returned.
The return of Christ is near.
Be ready.
Be watching.
Be faithful.
If the Holy Spirit is pulling at your heart strings today, give in to Him and follow the prayer below for your salvation in Jesus Christ!
Come! He’s Waiting on You!
Prayer to Salvation
Heavenly Father,
I come before You today admitting that I am a sinner in need of Your mercy and grace. Your Word says in Romans 10:9–10 that if I confess with my mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in my heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, I shall be saved. Today, I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and my Savior. I believe with all my heart that He died for my sins, was buried, and rose again the third day.
Lord Jesus, I ask You to forgive me of all my sins. Wash me clean in Your precious blood. I turn from my old life and surrender fully to You. Come into my heart, make me a new creature, and fill me with the Holy Spirit. From this day forward, I choose to follow You, live by Your Word, and walk in the new life You have given me.
Thank You, Lord, for saving me, for forgiving me, and for writing my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. I give You all the glory, honor, and praise.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
