Scripture (KJV) – James 1:1-2
“James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;”
Reflection
James begins his letter not with comfort, but with perspective. He writes to believers who were scattered, pressured, and facing real trials. Yet instead of telling them to complain or retreat, he tells them to count it all joy.
This kind of joy is not based on circumstances. It is rooted in confidence that God is working through the trial. The word “count” means to consider, to deliberately choose your response. Joy in trials is a decision of faith.
Trials test us, but they also refine us. They reveal where our trust truly lies. When difficulties come, they are not meant to destroy our faith but to strengthen it.
You may be walking through something challenging right now. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” ask, “Lord, what are You producing in me?” God uses pressure to deepen perseverance, grow maturity, and anchor us more firmly in Him.
Joy does not mean denying pain. It means trusting purpose. Even in the middle of hardship, God is shaping you for something greater.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Help me to see my trials through Your eyes. When difficulties arise, give me the strength to respond with faith and not fear. Teach me to count it joy, knowing that You are working in my life. Grow my patience, deepen my trust, and strengthen my walk with You. I surrender my struggles to You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
