January 6 -Truth Reveals True Allegiance

Scripture (KJV) John 8:42–44

42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Reflection

These words of Jesus are direct, sobering, and impossible to soften. He draws a clear line between those who truly belong to God and those who only claim to. Love for Christ is the evidence of spiritual family.

Hearing, receiving, and obeying His Word reveals the Father we belong to.

Jesus exposes a powerful truth: rejection of Him is not intellectual—it is spiritual. Truth and lies have different origins.

Truth flows from God; lies flow from the enemy. Our desires, actions, and response to Jesus reveal who we are listening to.

This passage calls believers to honest self-examination. Do we love Christ? Do we receive His Word—even when it confronts us? Or do we resist truth when it challenges our pride, comfort, or traditions?

Walking in truth means aligning our hearts with Christ daily, allowing His Word to shape us, correct us, and transform us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son in truth and love. Search my heart and reveal anything in me that resists Your Word. Help me to love Christ fully and walk in obedience to His truth. Guard me from deception, pride, and falsehood.

Let my life reflect that I belong to You, not just in words, but in actions, desires, and devotion. Teach me to hear Your voice clearly and follow You faithfully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
