July 29 – Love That Forgives

Scripture (KJV) – Ephesians 4:31-32

“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Reflection

Forgiveness is one of the clearest demonstrations of God’s love working through the life of a believer. It is not always easy, especially when we have been deeply hurt. Yet Scripture reminds us that our willingness to forgive others is rooted in the incredible forgiveness we have received through Jesus Christ.

Bitterness has a way of quietly taking root in the heart. Left unchecked, it can rob us of joy, damage our relationships, and hinder our fellowship with God. The Holy Spirit lovingly convicts us whenever resentment begins to replace compassion because He desires for us to experience the freedom that comes through forgiveness.

Forgiveness does not excuse sin or pretend the hurt never happened. Instead, it is a decision to release the offense into God’s hands and trust Him to bring justice in His perfect time. When we choose forgiveness, we are not saying the wrong was acceptable—we are choosing to obey Christ and allow His grace to heal our hearts.

Today, ask yourself if there is someone you need to forgive. Holding on to bitterness only keeps you in bondage, but extending forgiveness reflects the very heart of Jesus Christ. The same grace that saved you is the grace that enables you to forgive others.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the immeasurable forgiveness You have shown me through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Search my heart and reveal any bitterness, anger, or unforgiveness that I have allowed to remain. Help me to forgive others as You have forgiven me. Fill my heart with kindness, compassion, and love, and teach me to trust You with every hurt and every injustice. May my life reflect the mercy and grace that You have so freely given to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
