Reflection
Few subjects are more sobering than eternity. Jesus spoke often about both Heaven and Hell because He wanted people to understand that every life has an eternal destination. In this verse, He plainly teaches that there are only two outcomes: everlasting punishment or eternal life.
Our culture often avoids talking about judgment, but ignoring the truth does not change it. God’s love is beyond measure, yet His justice is perfect. He provided the way of salvation through the death, burial, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. Those who trust Him receive the gift of eternal life, while those who reject Him remain under God’s judgment.
This truth should not fill the believer with pride but with compassion. Knowing the reality of eternity should stir our hearts to pray for the lost, share the Gospel with boldness, and live lives that point others to Christ. Every conversation about Jesus may be someone’s opportunity to escape eternal separation from God.
If you know Christ as your Savior, rejoice in the assurance of your salvation and thank Him for His amazing grace. If you have never placed your faith in Jesus Christ, do not delay. The invitation to salvation is still open today, but no one is promised tomorrow.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving the world enough to send Your only begotten Son to die for our sins. Thank You for the gift of eternal life that is available through faith in Jesus Christ. Help me never to take my salvation for granted. Give me a burden for those who do not know You and the courage to share the Gospel with love and compassion. Keep my heart focused on eternity, and may my life faithfully point others to the Savior before it is too late. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
